Was Last Night's Slaughtering of the Brewers The Most Satisfying Win of the Season So Far? Yes, Yes it Was

Courtesy of washingtonpost.com
Good lord, the weekend could not have started in a more satisfying fashion.

In the midst of this whole Gregory Polanco debacle (which I will continue to refuse to address as the frustration will only continue to take more years off my life), the Buccos began a three-game weekend series against those asshat Brewers at home last night.

And it could not have gone better if I had scripted it myself.

Here were Kyle Lohse's stats against the Pirates coming into the game:

11-2, 3.31 ERA in 21 career starts

Here is his line from last night:

5 IP, 8 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 2 HR, 1 Loss

Andrew McCutchen bashed a hanging curveball for the first homer against Lohse, but I enjoyed the one the white-hot Jordy Mercer hit in the 5th because it gave us some insurance and clearly rattled the Brewers starter:

Then once we were done toying with Lohse and reliever Tyler Thornburg we got the opportunity to face our dear old friend Wei-Chung Wang.

For those of you who don't know Wang, he was a relatively promising young pitcher in our farm system until the Brewers snatched him up in this past winter's Rule 5 Draft and they've been hiding him in their bullpen. While he hasn't been the worst pitcher at the Major League level, here are his numbers against his former team after we tagged him last night:

3 IP, 8 ER, 2 HR, 24.00 ERA

While I would gladly take him back if Milwaukee decides to give up on him, it brings a smile to my face to see us smack around a guy the Brewers thought they could steal from under our noses.

Today we have Edinson Volquez going up against Matt Garza at 4:05. While my gut feeling isn't too positive about this game, I had the same feeling about last night and that turned out pretty well.
