2014 NFL Draft: Quick Wish List For the Steelers for Day 2

Mmmmmm yea you like that don't you

At 7:00 tonight the madness that is the NFL Draft continue as Rounds 2-3 will commence. The Steelers did pretty well with their 1st pick, but I think they can really make a statement with the players they choose in these rounds. It should be noted that in the 3rd Round we don't have our normal pick and will be picking at #97 with a compensation pick. Here is my wish list for tonight's festivities:

2nd Round:

1. DT Louis Nix, Notre Dame

As you can see from the picture above, Louis Nix is a big dude. A little surprised he lasted past the 1st Round and it actually looks like the Steelers guy might fall to them this round. Even though we signed Cam Thomas and we have Steve McLendon, the middle of our line has been suspect since Casey Hampton declined and Nix could be a stalwart there for the foreseeable future.

2. TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Washington/Jace Amaro, Texas Tech

As much as I love Heath Miller, he is getting older and there is no certainty that he'll stay healthy this season. Big Ben needs an impact target other than Antonio Brown and either one of these superstar tight ends would be a worthy selection. Amaro is more of a sure thing, but ASJ has that Gronkowski ability and the mean streak to boot.

3. WR Marquis Lee, USC

Lee was one of the top prospects coming into the season and was a viable Heisman candidate. However, he had a disappointing season and has now fallen out of the 1st Round. He still has the upside of a top receiver and if he somehow falls to the Steelers pick, he would be a worthwhile selection.

3rd Round:

1. CB Pierre Desir, Lindenwood

A DII superstar Desir has some upside but he is still raw due to the lack of quality competition. He is exactly the kind of player that veteran Ike Taylor can mold into a top corner. This is one of the Steelers' weakest positions and picking Desir would go a long way towards shoring that up.

2. OG David Yankey, Stanford

The Steelers did pretty well last time they drafted a guard out of Stanford and you can never go wrong with trying to improve the O-line. Yankey is a very balanced lineman and is definitely worthy of the #97 pick.

3. QB Zach Mettenberger, LSU

Ben Roethlisberger is 32 years old and an old 32 at that considering the beating he has taken over the past several years. The Steelers need to find his replacement at some point and if Mettenberger falls to the Steelers here, he would definitely be a good option to become Big Ben's mentee. Plus they can now make a delicious Cajun-style burger to complement the Roethlisburger.
