Betting the under on Padres games is always a good idea.
10:10pm | 913 | Los Angeles Dodgers (p) | -1.5 (+152) | O 6.5 (-115) | -112 | |||
914 | San Diego Padres | +1.5 (-170) | U 6.5 (-105) | +101 |
The 2014 San Diego Padres are a historically bad offensive baseball team. Like worst hitting team of all-time bad. Here is why you should always bet the under when San Diego is playing:
- They are batting .214 as a team. The New York Mets are the next worst hitting team batting .232.
- WAR is a statistic that everyone likes to use to measure both individual player and team success. The top team in baseball based on WAR is the Angels at 15.8 with the Athletics a close second at 15.7. The Padres are at 0.6. The Astros are the next worst at 2.8.
-They play at PETCO Park, which is known as one of the worst stadiums in baseball to play in for offense.
One bright spot for San Diego this season has been 27-year old starting pitcher Tyson Ross, who goes for them tonight against the Dodgers. Ross has been very good for the Padres with a few rough patches here and there, and owns a 3.27 ERA. At home Ross has an even better 2.33 ERA and opponents are only batting .198 against him.
Ross already faced the Dodgers at home once this season and pitched just okay, allowing three earned runs in five innings with seven strikeouts. The Dodgers ended up winning the game 5-1, which would have covered the under here.
Going on the mound for the Dodgers is Josh Beckett who owns a 2.49 ERA on the year and a no-hitter. In the month of June Beckett has only allowed five earned runs in total with three of them coming on home runs, something that rarely occurs at PETCO Park.
The over/under line for the game is just 6.5 runs, however this has all the making of a very low-scoring affair. If you like quality pitching and don't mind staying up a little late, this is one to watch for you.
Bet: Under 6.5
