Jenifer Langosch Leaving For The Cardinals

~ It is with mixed emotions that I must announce that I will be leaving the #Pirates beat next month. More here: http://t.co/QDPrbtY0Fri Dec 23 15:51:21 via web

So Ms. Langosch is heading to Missouri to become the beat writer for the Cardinals on MLB.com. She has provided excellent coverage on the Pirates for the past couple years and I think I speak for all Pirates fans when I wish her only the best with her new endeavor.

While one door closes, another one opens and I am excited to see who will take over in her absence.

Video Of The Day - 12/23/2011

39 years ago today Franco Harris caught a Terry Bradshaw pass that deflected off Raiders safety Jack Tatum and ran it in for the game-winning score in an AFC divisional playoff game to give the Steelers an improbable 13-7 victory over the Raiders. It is one of the most incredible plays in NFL history and by far the most recognizable play in Steelers history.

It never ceases to amaze me the ramifications of this play and trying to imagine the play if it happened in a game today. No doubt it would be the Top Play on SportsCenter for months. This play also signifies the first unofficial use of instant replay in an NFL game. So Happy Holidays Steeler fans and rejoice in the merry joy of the Immaculate Reception.

Is This Hines Ward's Last Year With The Black and Yellow?

Very insightful article here about Hines Ward's future with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The all-time leading receiver in Steelers history, Ward has seen his role in the offense decrease drastically this season and he wasn't a factor in the game on Monday Night.

I would hate to see Hines in any other uniform and I think he can still be productive in the slot, providing a sure handed check down for Ben. Plus, what would we do without that infamous smile.

Niners Fan Beaten At Game On Monday

(12-22) 19:21 PST SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco police are investigating another case of fan violence at Candlestick Park after a 66-year-old man said he was attacked by several men at Monday night's matchup between the 49ers and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Manuel Austin of Los Gatos told The Chronicle that he left the game before it began with three missing teeth, a concussion and a black eye. He required stitches on the inside of his mouth, he said, and suffered from back, neck and rib pain all week.

The Evolution of Evgeni Malkin

Great article about how Geno has turned into a two-way forward and is finally excelling in Dan Bylsma's system here. They're gonna need him to continue to be more like Jordan Staal and less like Alex Kovalev for the Pens to consistently beat the top teams in the Eastern Conference. The 3-point a game pace he has been on the past couple games doesn't hurt either.

Deryk Engelland Suspended For 3 Games

A summary of the suspension and a video of the hit that caused it can be found here. No surprises really, just means were gonna be down another defenseman and an enforcer. This shit is ridiculous.

Happy Holidays From The Pittsburgh Pirates

Check out this holiday e-card from the Pittsburgh Pirates. Just a few things I noticed:

  • Joel Hanrahan frightened me when his face popped out of the box. I can see why hitters struggled against him this year.
  • I am not sure Jose Tabata knows what Christmas is and if anyone has a translation for what he said I'd be happy to hear it.
  • Jeff Karstens was one of my favorite pitchers this year but there is no denying that he is one ugly dude.
  • Gotta love Andrew McCutchen.
